Creative Community Concepts recently ran a 3 week Parenting Through Sport Program in Nyngan. Each session consisted of age appropriate activities that encourage the development of the child’s motor skills while improving literacy, numeracy, and colour skills through play. This program is a great opportunity for parents/caregivers to connect with their child through play and receive resources to take home to continue this positive learning interaction within the family home.
Providers also came along to the 3 sessions to provide information about their services to the families which is a great way for us to link community members with services they may not be familiar with. We would like to thank Wendy (Red Cross/Nyngan Community Hub), Belinda (Catholic Care/Financial Capability worker), Tenille (Bernandos) and Mel (FWAS) for coming along to speak with the parents/caregivers.
This program is a valuable link for community members to come together in a positive friendly environment and interact with other families in a social aspect. Vickie and Brigette thoroughly enjoy coming to Nyngan and were so happy to see the families enjoy the activities and resources (such as mini footballs, frisbees etc) that they received to take home. The feedback from families was positive with a common theme of “when are you coming back”. Both Vickie and Brigette love sharing these days with the community and look forward to coming back for some more Footy For Fun.
