The first leg of CCC’s Outback tour began in Wilcannia. There was great parent engagement supporting the little under 5’s with the Laser Tag guns as they wanted to have a turn after completing the Footy For Fun. A huge thanks to the Wilcannia school teachers for driving the event and rounding all the kids up. It’s by far the biggest turnout we have had in this small community.
Menindee was next and are just the most amazing community. Parents helping to register participants, laughing and cheering their children on throughout the afternoon. Absolutely fantastic!! Children were given frisbees from Office of Sport at the end of the afternoon and everyone stayed back and played.
Broken Hill was the last event and again a brilliant turnout of children and caregivers.
Mission Australia provided water and registered all the amazing girls and boys who came along. The 0-5 years FFF children had a ball, they did not want their session to finish. They even did drills and learnt some very hard skills the older children were doing. CCC staff were very impressed with their enthusiasm and willingness to learn and have a try.
Overall, 8 communities were visited throughout the Murdi Paaki region, every event was special and shows how important sport is to a child’s life by just the level of engagement in each community. We must thank Ronny Gibbs and Murray Newham from Office of Sport who attended every session and ran so many activities, plus Dallas Reeves and Jack Ramage from NSWRL who also contributed so much and drove each afternoon in the respected communities.
