Targeted Earlier Intervention Contract Id 1- 1484103992 Parenting Through Sport
2023/24
This reporting period has surpassed our expectations, with a remarkable rise in participation. Our ongoing evaluation of our delivery and approach within each community ensures we address the specific needs of each group. Parental engagement has remained strong, with a high participation rate throughout the 3-week program. The friendships formed among parents during this time have had a notable impact, as reflected in the positive feedback we’ve received. Children have shown increased confidence in social interactions, improved motor skills, and enhanced knowledge in areas such as numbers, colours, and letters. Overall, the Parenting Through Sport Program has had a fantastic year, and we are excited to continue offering it in these communities during the 2024/25 period.
Some great highlights for the year are:
* Indigenous Social Participation
We observed a notably high rate of Indigenous participation at the community event in Condobolin, which was both encouraging and significant. By actively embracing and celebrating diversity within these communities, we contribute to fostering a more equitable society that honours and respects a wide range of cultural backgrounds. We are privileged to offer a social platform that not only welcomes but actively encourages this diversity. This commitment helps build stronger, more inclusive communities where every cultural perspective is valued and integrated into the broader social fabric.
* Education and Skills Training
Parental participation during the 3-week program was outstanding, and the children’s responses were equally positive. Every parent and caregiver took an active role by assisting with activities and engaging directly with their children. The atmosphere was filled with laughter and excitement, clearly reflecting the enjoyment experienced by both parents and children.
The involvement of parents and caregivers in these activities has numerous benefits. It not only strengthens the bond between them and their children but also enhances communication, boosts self-esteem, and supports cognitive development. The positive experiences shared by these families led to enthusiastic word-of-mouth promotion, which brought in new participants and further expanded the program’s reach.
* Community Sector Coordination
Nine service providers participated in the Cowra Community Event, contributing to a vibrant festival atmosphere. Rather than merely distributing flyers, these providers engaged families with a variety of activities, fostering deeper involvement and offering valuable information about their services. This approach empowers community members by equipping them with the knowledge needed to access services when necessary. Providers also highly supported the 3-week program with a total of 6 services attending.

Indigenous Social Participation
These events were held to increase the participation of Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal families in community events. In addition to this, Local Service Providers were invited to attend in the aim to give Parents/Carers and their family members the opportunity to interact with other organisations and community members while enjoying activities with their family members.
Education & Skills Training - 3 wk Parenting through Sport
Each session included age-appropriate activities that develop the child’s motor skills while improving outcomes in literacy, numeracy, and colour identification. General improvement in health and wellbeing.
Community Sector Coordination
These sessions provided participants with information regarding each client’s services to increase participants knowledge and awareness of the services available to them. This also encourages increased sense of belonging to their community.
